Can you use a machine to sew a patch on jeans w/o sewing the front to the back or having to let out the seams

I am trying to avoid cheap glues that will wash away when i wash it and I am trying to avoid sewing by hand
I’m with Linda D. on this one. Here’s how you would do it if you have a free arm sewing machine. (I’ll put a link in of a picture of one so you can tell what we mean.) The first two pictures are of machines with free arms. It’s not meant to be an endorsement, just to show you what a free arm sewing machine looks like.
First, get your free arm sewing machine out, with the free arm exposed. Turn the jeans inside out, and put the place to be patched on the free arm. (Think of the free arm as a metal leg, and put the jeans onto it like you’d put them on your leg.) Place to be patched face up, near the needle plate. Cut your patch to fit the place you want to patch and place it over the place. Pin it to the single layer of the pants on the top and the bottom.. Now, position the right edge of the patch (we’re visualizing the patch as having a top, bottom, left edge, and right edge) where the needle is. Make a straight stitch all down the patch on that right edge, back stitch for stability. Raise the presser foot to release the tension, and move the jeans and patch over so that you have the left edge of the patch under the needle. Lower the presser foot to engage the tension again, and sew a straight stitch down the left edge of the patch. You’re going to want to have each of these stitches be in on the patch at least 1/4 inch from the cut of the patch.
Now, this is going to be a bit trickier, because when you are sewing the part that would be on the top or bottom of the patch, you’re looking at sewing in a place where you can’t just move the fabric along the tube of the free arm. But it can still be done.
One way would be to lower the feed dogs on your machine (check your manual) and then, with feed dogs lowered, stitch across the top of the patch. You’ll need to hold it and the jeans with both hands and guide the fabric along. Remember, when the feed dogs are down, it’s you that moves the fabric, so unless you want a tangled mess of thread, you’ll move it along slowly while sewing quickly. I”d even suggest practicing on a different piece of fabric before you try this. Get good at it, and then sew the patch on the top and the bottom with the feed dogs down.
Now, this is if you want the patch sort of hidden. If you want in to be an “in your face, yes, I’m a patch on the knee of these jeans, what of it” kind of patch, then use decorative threads, and put the patch on the OUTSIDE of the jeans. I’d even suggest doing all 4 sides with the feed dogs down, have fun, get creative, and embellish to your heart’s content, then stick it up on your blog.
